The New York Yankees have bolstered their infield depth with a veteran addition.

According to MLB.com’s transactions page, the Yankees have signed utility infielder Pablo Reyes to a minor league deal.

Reyes split time with the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox in 2024, seeing limited action at the major league level. In 22 games, he posted a .183/.234/.217 slash line with a .451 OPS and five RBIs over 60 at-bats. However, Reyes was far more productive in Triple-A, slashing .300/.385/.504 with a .889 OPS, 12 home runs, 42 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases in 68 games.

The 31-year-old’s best MLB season came in 2023 with Boston, where he became a fan favorite by hitting .287/.339/.377 with a .716 OPS, two homers, and 20 RBIs across 64 games.

Reyes brings versatility to the Yankees’ system, with experience at second base, third base, shortstop, first base, and all three outfield spots. While he will compete for a bench spot on the Opening Day roster during spring training, he’s more likely to start the season as a depth option at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Yankees face additional infield uncertainty this offseason, with second baseman Gleyber Torres entering free agency. Options to fill Torres’ potential departure include promoting infield prospect Caleb Durbin, adding an external second baseman, or shifting Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to his natural position at second base while targeting a third baseman.

Reyes provides New York with a reliable veteran presence who can step in at multiple positions if injuries arise during the season.
