Florida State has found its quarterback for the 2025 recruiting class, and it comes in the form of a surprising flip from a rival program.
After losing longtime commitment Tramell Jones Jr. last week, the Seminoles were forced to explore other options. Initially targeting four-star Carter Smith, Florida State shifted its focus when Smith appeared poised to commit to Wisconsin. On Thursday evening, Florida State landed a major win when four-star quarterback Kevin Sperry, previously committed to Oklahoma, announced his decision to flip to the Seminoles.
Kevin Sperry’s Journey
Sperry, a 6’1”, 215-pound quarterback from Denton, Texas, committed to Oklahoma in March 2023. Despite not visiting Florida State in nearly two years, he decided to make the move to Tallahassee.
Sperry has had an impressive high school career, playing for three different schools over three seasons. As a junior at Oklahoma City Carl Albert High School, he led his team to a perfect 14-0 season and a state championship, throwing for 2,564 yards and 31 touchdowns while adding 563 rushing yards and 11 scores.
Now back in Texas, Sperry is finishing his high school career at Guyer High School, where he’s guided the team to an 8-3 record. This season, he’s thrown for 2,026 yards and 21 touchdowns, adding 642 rushing yards and two scores.
Recruiting Impact
Ranked as the No. 263 overall prospect and the No. 24 quarterback in the 2025 class by 247Sports, Sperry’s commitment boosts Florida State’s recruiting class from No. 43 to No. 34 nationally.
Sperry’s last visit to Florida State was in December 2022, though he also attended a summer camp and watched the Seminoles’ victory over Florida that fall. His decision to flip is a significant development for head coach Mike Norvell and his staff as they continue to build momentum for the future.
With 13 verbal commitments in the 2025 class, the addition of Kevin Sperry provides Florida State with a talented leader to anchor their recruiting efforts.
