Mike Edwards’ time with the Tennessee Titans was incredibly brief, lasting even less than his tenure with the Buffalo Bills. Just one week after signing with the Titans following his release from Buffalo, Edwards was let go again, marking his second release in under eight days, according to Titans senior writer Jim Wyatt.
Initially, Edwards started the year with the Bills, but found himself buried on the depth chart behind safeties Taylor Rapp, Damar Hamlin, and rookie Cole Bishop. Despite Buffalo’s attempts to trade Edwards before the deadline, they were unsuccessful, leading to his release. After signing a one-year, $2.8M contract with the Bills in free agency, Edwards only played seven defensive snaps across three games before being let go.
Interestingly, Edwards himself requested to be released from Buffalo. He was soon picked up by the Titans, where he was expected to step in as a potential replacement for injured starting safety Quandre Diggs. However, the Titans’ safety group already included veteran Amani Hooker and younger players Mike Brown and Julius Wood, with Brown getting the start over Edwards while the veteran remained inactive. Edwards was eventually released just days later without stepping onto the field for a single snap with Tennessee.
The reason for Edwards’ release by the Titans remains unclear, leaving his future up in the air. However, it’s likely that Edwards will seek a more permanent spot with his next team.
