The Patriots have made one trade so far and may be considering additional moves. Interest in several players has been reported, although some are currently off-limits.

According to veteran insider Josina Anderson, multiple teams have inquired about cornerback Christian Gonzalez, but New England has no intention of trading him. As the Patriots’ top pick last year, Gonzalez remains a key part of the team’s future. His rookie contract, which runs through at least 2026 (potentially 2027 if the fifth-year option is picked up), solidifies him as a cornerstone for the rebuilding franchise.

Gonzalez, a former No. 17 pick, played only four games in his rookie year but has been healthy throughout 2024, starting full-time. He has recorded 37 tackles, one interception, and four pass deflections, with improved coverage stats (57.1% completion rate and 77.4 passer rating allowed), positioning him as a core player in the Patriots’ secondary.

Another cornerback, Jonathan Jones, is also expected to stay in New England, but other positions might see action as the November 5 trade deadline nears. Wide receiver is a primary area to watch, as the team has recently shopped Tyquan Thornton. The 24-year-old, signed through 2024, has shown limited production, which may impact his trade value. Veteran K.J. Osborn, a pending free agent, also has potential to be moved, though he may not bring back significant draft capital. However, he remains a prime trade candidate in the coming days.

Boston Sports Journal’s Mike Giardi suggested on WEEI that at least one receiver trade is likely, with Osborn being the most probable candidate. Osborn’s workload has dropped recently, leading to frustration. If he’s traded, rookies like Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker could see increased playing time.

Giardi further notes that Osborn, who has openly requested a trade to both the Patriots and local media, is one to watch closely. With a base salary of $1.18M, he’d be affordable for many teams. Although he has only 57 yards and one touchdown on seven catches this year, Osborn previously served as a reliable depth option in Minnesota and could find a similar role with a new team soon.
