Reports of Jalen Hurts’ decline were greatly overstated, as he dismantled Cincinnati’s defense with 274 total yards and four touchdowns in Philadelphia’s 37-17 victory in Week 8. This impressive performance not only showcased Hurts’ skills but also marked a milestone as he moved into second place on the Eagles’ all-time rushing touchdowns list.

With three rushing touchdowns in the game, Hurts surpassed Wilbert Montgomery (who had 45 rushing TDs) to claim the No. 2 spot, bringing his career total to 48. The franchise leader remains Steve Van Buren with 69 rushing touchdowns.

Critics may argue that many of Hurts’ rushing scores have come from the Eagles’ signature “tush push” play, which is valid. However, touchdowns count the same, regardless of the play’s length. Hurts’ physicality has been key to the success of this tactic, as seen when he powered the ball across the goal line despite heavy defensive pressure.

In addition to his rushing, Hurts excelled as a passer against Cincinnati, completing 16 of 20 throws for a passer rating of 132.5, significantly higher than Joe Burrow’s 84.7. One highlight was a stunning touchdown throw to DeVonta Smith late in the third quarter. Importantly, Hurts also protected the ball well, achieving his fourth consecutive game without an interception after a shaky start to the season.

Overall, Hurts delivered his most well-rounded performance of the year, but he was quick to credit his teammates. “I think today was a great team win, a great showing as a team,” he said, praising the defense for stopping a high-caliber offense.

Next up, Hurts and the Eagles aim to extend their winning streak to four as they prepare to host the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9.
