The Milwaukee Brewers narrowly avoided a significant blow to one of their top players.
In a season where several Brewers dealt with serious injuries, Christian Yelich’s back injury stood out as the most prominent. However, another injury that remained hidden during the postseason has come to light, possibly shedding some light on an underwhelming performance.
“Matt Arnold says William Contreras was managing a mild knee sprain during the playoffs,” Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Thursday morning.
Contreras posted a .167 batting average with no extra-base hits, no home runs, two RBIs, and a .334 OPS in three postseason games against the New York Mets. Clearly, the 26-year-old catcher struggled to find his groove at the plate in October, and now we may have a clearer understanding of why his offensive production fell short after a strong 2024 season. Although he was seen wearing a knee brace, the severity of the injury wasn’t widely known.
Fortunately, it appears that Contreras’ knee issue won’t have long-term consequences.
“Matt Arnold said William Contreras‘ knee sprain was minor and won’t require any offseason treatment,” MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy confirmed Thursday morning.
While the injury could have been much more serious, it’s reassuring to know that Contreras is expected to make a full recovery and won’t need to spend time rehabbing this winter.
