The Baltimore Ravens made a significant move this offseason by signing star running back Derrick Henry.
However, could they be in the market for another halfback?
David Latham of Last Word On Sports suggests it’s a possibility, listing Baltimore as a potential landing spot for Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner, who could be traded by the deadline.
“Henry is on track for First-Team All-Pro honors, but Baltimore could benefit from having a reliable backup in case of injury, which they could find in a trade for James Conner,” Latham wrote.
Historically, the Ravens have effectively utilized a two-back system, but they haven’t had a rusher of Henry’s caliber in quite some time. This raises questions about whether Baltimore would consider giving up valuable assets for another running back, especially one who has made two Pro Bowl appearances.
Justice Hill has proven to be a capable No. 2 option for the Ravens, making it less likely that they would pursue a high-profile name like Conner.
If Baltimore is looking to acquire another major offensive weapon, a wide receiver might be a more logical choice given their depth issues at that position.
So far in 2024, Conner has rushed for 293 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. Last season, he totaled 1,040 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging an impressive five yards per attempt.
The 29-year-old has been one of the more underrated running backs in the NFL, but the Cardinals may demand a price that could be too steep for the Ravens.
Conner spent the first four years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers before joining the Cardinals in 2021.
