The Washington Commanders are heading home in high spirits after a dominant 42-14 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4 at State Farm Stadium.
Before the game, running back Jeremy McNichols was named a captain by coach Dan Quinn, a gesture he was determined to repay.
“It means everything,” McNichols said of being named captain. “We all put in the work. Honestly, the hours, and just to have the opportunity to go out there and help my team win—that’s all I can do when the opportunity comes.”
McNichols certainly made the most of his opportunity, stepping in for Austin Ekeler, who suffered a concussion in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Having only scored one career touchdown up until this game—almost four years ago—McNichols found the end zone twice against the Cardinals.
Despite his standout performance, McNichols was quick to credit his teammates.
“It was a team effort,” McNichols said. “The offensive line was blocking like crazy. The tight ends and receivers made my job easier. I’m just out there to help my team win.”
With McNichols embracing his new role as captain, he has energized the team for the remainder of the season, which continues with a Week 5 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
