Though coach Mike Macdonald hasn’t provided recent updates on Byron Murphy II’s condition, reports suggest that the Seattle Seahawks may be without their rookie defensive lineman for a few games.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Seahawks are expected to be cautious with Murphy as he recovers from a hamstring injury, with the rookie likely to “miss some time.” Murphy, a first-round pick out of Texas, suffered the injury in the second quarter of last week’s win over the Dolphins and did not return.

The timing of Murphy’s injury is unfortunate for the Seahawks, who have won their first three games but now face a demanding stretch with three games in 10 days, including matchups against the Lions and 49ers. Both teams feature strong rushing attacks, and losing Murphy could significantly impact Seattle’s defensive depth.

Additionally, the Seahawks may be without veteran defensive tackle Leonard Williams, who left the Dolphins game with a rib injury. His status remains unclear, though the first injury report later this week may offer more insight ahead of Seattle’s Monday night game in Detroit.

In his first three games, Murphy has performed well, contributing six tackles, a pressure, and his first career sack while rotating behind starters Williams and Jarran Reed. Pro Football Focus ranks him second in pressures among rookie defensive linemen and first in pass-rush efficiency.

If Murphy is sidelined, the Seahawks have already made moves to bolster their depth, re-signing defensive tackle Matt Gotel to the practice squad and preparing Myles Adams, who was inactive for two of the first three games, to step into a larger role.
