The New York Yankees might be without a starting pitcher, at least at the start of the playoffs. Nestor Cortes has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to an elbow issue. Initially scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, the left-hander was clearly experiencing some elbow discomfort.

Cortes’ move to the injured list means he will not be available for the opening of the AL Division Series on October 5. He informed reporters that his UCL is intact, but further testing is being conducted to establish a treatment plan. He remains hopeful that he could return for the playoffs if the Yankees make a significant run.

On a positive note, Marcus Stroman is prepared to step back into the rotation. However, it’s unfortunate that Cortes has been performing well recently, boasting a 3.86 ERA over his last seven outings.

The Yankees have already secured a playoff berth and are nearly guaranteed to clinch the AL East, holding a five-game lead as they head into Wednesday’s game.
