Seattle Seahawks Secure Key Additions: Confirm Signing of Highly Sought-After NT and CB, Strengthening Defense for Playoff Contention

The Seattle Seahawks announced the re-signing of nose tackle Matt Gotel and the addition of cornerback Tyler Hall to their practice squad on Tuesday. To create space for these new additions, running back George Holani was placed on practice squad injured reserve, and safety Marquise Blair was released for the second time in less than a week. Holani suffered an ankle injury during Seattle’s Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots after being elevated from the practice squad.

Gotel was considered for the Seahawks’ 53-man roster during the offseason, having participated in the early part of training camp before suffering an ankle injury. He was subsequently placed on injured reserve and released after reaching an injury settlement. A native of Lakewood, Washington, Gotel ended last season on Seattle’s practice squad but has yet to play in a regular season game despite entering his third season. At 25 years old, there remains potential for the Seahawks to develop a local talent.

Tyler Hall went undrafted in 2020 and has previously played for several teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas Raiders, and most recently, the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent the majority of training camp with the Eagles but was released due to an injury settlement in August. Over his career, Hall has participated in 31 games (with six starts), recording 46 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, and four pass deflections. Last season, he played 379 defensive snaps with the Raiders, with about 78% of those snaps in the slot.

The addition of Gotel may suggest that Seattle is bracing for the potential absence of Byron Murphy II and/or Leonard Williams, both of whom sustained injuries in their last game. Gotel could be elevated for the Week 4 matchup against the Detroit Lions on Monday, September 30.
