Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale is not only on track to win the National League Cy Young Award, but he’s also making baseball history in a remarkable 2024 season.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today:

Chris Sale’s performance for Atlanta this season has been nothing short of spectacular, as he leads MLB in wins, ERA, and strikeouts. Remarkably, Sale hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in any of his last 18 starts, a streak that dates back to June 7. This is the longest such stretch by a full-time starter in a single season since earned runs became an official stat in 1913.

After being traded from the Boston Red Sox to the Braves in the offseason for infielder Vaughn Grissom, the 35-year-old has proven to be a game-changing acquisition. Sale boasts an 18-3 record, a 2.38 ERA, and 225 strikeouts over 177.1 innings, holding the Braves’ rotation together after Spencer Strider’s season-ending injury. Atlanta, currently 84-71, is just two games behind the New York Mets for the final wild card spot.

Chris Sale solid as Braves sweep Diamondbacks

In his 14th MLB season with the White Sox, Red Sox, and Braves, Sale has accumulated a 138-83 record and a 3.04 career ERA. He’s an eight-time All-Star, helped the Red Sox win the 2018 World Series, and has finished in the top five of Cy Young voting five times. Now, he’s on track for his first Cy Young win.
