The Jets’ offensive line took a hit during their Thursday night victory, with right tackle Morgan Moses sustaining a knee injury that is expected to sideline him for some time.
Head coach Robert Saleh expressed optimism that the worst-case scenario was avoided, as reported by ESPN’s Rich Cimini. While further tests are needed, veteran insider Jordan Schultz reports that Moses is expected to miss “at least” a couple of weeks. On a positive note, Schultz also indicated that surgery is likely unnecessary.
Though the injury isn’t as severe as initially feared, Moses’ absence will necessitate changes to the Jets’ starting lineup. Rookie first-rounder Olu Fashanu is set to step into a first-team role after working at both tackle positions over the summer. Fashanu, a Penn State standout, was drafted as a future replacement for Tyron Smith, but the veteran Cowboys All-Pro has played every snap so far this season with his new team.
Moses, who began his career with Washington, spent one year with the Jets before signing with the Ravens in 2022. He was Baltimore’s full-time right tackle last season, but was traded back to New York in March as the Ravens focused on youth along the offensive line.
This season, Moses has struggled, earning a career-low 51.2 PFF grade through three games—a significant drop from his usual performance. He will aim to bounce back once healthy, but for now, Fashanu will be tasked with providing stability at right tackle as the Jets look to build on their 2-1 start. It remains to be seen if injured reserve, which would require a minimum four-game absence, will be necessary once Moses undergoes a full evaluation.
