Practice injuries are always hard to accept in sports, and the Notre Dame football team is grappling with a particularly tough one on Monday.
As reported by Pete Sampson, a Notre Dame beat writer for The Athletic, the Fighting Irish have lost offensive tackle Charles Jagusah for the season due to an upper-body injury sustained during practice.

Practice injuries are among the toughest setbacks in sports, and Notre Dame football is facing a significant one this Monday.
Pete Sampson, a Notre Dame beat writer for The Athletic, reported that offensive tackle Charles Jagusah is out for the season due to an upper-body injury sustained during practice.
Andy Staples of On3 later confirmed that Jagusah suffered a torn right pectoralis muscle.
This injury is a huge setback for Notre Dame. It would have been painful if it occurred during Week 1 against the Texas A&M Aggies, but it’s even more devastating since it happened in practice, particularly with the high expectations for Jagusah this season.
A redshirt freshman, Jagusah played in only two games last year, but he took over as the starting left tackle for Joe Alt (the No. 5 overall pick in the recent NFL Draft) in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl. He was slated to be Notre Dame’s starter this season.
Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 330 pounds, the former four-star recruit will be difficult to replace with the season’s start so close.
Notre Dame is set to face Texas A&M in College Station for its season opener on Aug. 31.
