Over the next month and a half, the Philadelphia Phillies will concentrate on clinching a World Series title, but they’ll face significant decisions come the offseason. Achieving their championship goal would simplify these choices, but falling short could trigger major changes.

Currently 76-54 and six games ahead of the Atlanta Braves in the National League East, the Phillies’ season has been largely promising. Despite recent struggles, their performance against the Kansas City Royals—scoring 22 runs over two games—signals a strong rebound.

Dave Dombrowski, known for his aggressive approach, will need to make crucial decisions if the team fails to meet its World Series aspirations. The outfield has been a weak spot this season, and with no significant upgrades at the trade deadline, the offseason presents a fresh chance for improvement.

A prime free agent target could be Anthony Santander from the Baltimore Orioles. Santander, noted for his power and outfield skills, is seen as a perfect fit for the Phillies. Jim Bowden of The Athletic calls him the “most underrated free agent” this year, highlighting his consistent performance and All-Star selection.

Santander has had a standout year with 38 home runs, typically commanding contracts over $100 million. However, ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel predicts he might earn between $40 and $80 million. If this forecast holds true, numerous MLB teams will vie for his services.

The Phillies should be among those interested, as Santander would bolster their lineup and contribute significantly to their World Series aspirations, offering a mutually beneficial scenario.
