San Diego Padres’ Kim Ha-seong injured his right shoulder during Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies, visibly distressed as he exited the field. Kim initially sustained the injury in the third inning after hitting a single and then diving back to the base while the Rockies’ pitcher attempted a pickoff. He jammed his arm into the base and was observed clutching his shoulder while walking around the field before eventually heading to the dugout.

“He’s dealing with something that’s going to require some time,” Padres manager Mike Shildt stated after the game. Kim is scheduled for an MRI, with results expected on Monday, Shildt added.
Kim had a similar injury last season when he jammed his right shoulder sliding into home plate during the third inning of a game against the Texas Rangers in July 2023. Earlier this month, he had been sidelined briefly due to soreness in his right triceps.
At 28, Kim is in his fourth season with the Padres, who signed him to a four-year, $28 million contract with a mutual option for a fifth year. His future with the team is uncertain. Kim became the first Korean player to win a Gold Glove in November 2023, earning the accolade in the utility position, but his batting average is .233 so far this year.
Kim previously played seven seasons in the KBO with the Nexen-renamed-Kiwoom Heroes from 2014 to 2020 before joining the MLB with the Padres in 2021.
Sunday was a tough night for the Padres as they lost 3-2 to the Rockies, breaking their streak of eight consecutive series wins at Coors Field in Denver. The Rockies won two of the three games over the weekend.
The Padres will next face the Minnesota Twins at Petco Park in San Diego.
