Before Saturday’s game against the Houston Astros, the Chicago White Sox made several roster changes involving pitchers. They added Enyel De Los Santos, claimed off waivers from the New York Yankees, and recalled Gus Varland from Triple-A Charlotte. To accommodate these additions, the White Sox placed Steven Wilson on the 15-day injured list and transferred Mike Clevinger to the 60-day IL.
On the Move
Enyel De Los Santos joins the White Sox after being designated for assignment by the Yankees earlier this week. The 28-year-old has a career 4.52 ERA over 231 innings but has struggled this season, posting a 5.79 ERA in 46.2 innings with the San Diego Padres and Yankees. His last appearance was against the White Sox, where he gave up seven runs.
Gus Varland will make his debut in a White Sox uniform after being claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 2. The 27-year-old has a career 5.81 ERA in 26.1 innings but has managed a 3.00 ERA in six innings this season. Since joining Triple-A Charlotte, Varland posted a 3.86 ERA in 4.2 innings.
Steven Wilson is back on the IL for the second time this season due to a back injury. The right-hander has had a rough first season with the White Sox, recording a 5.71 ERA after being acquired in the Dylan Cease trade last offseason.
Mike Clevinger will be out for the rest of the season following disc replacement surgery on August 1. His move to the 60-day IL is a roster maneuver to create space for the new additions.
