LSU is heating up on the field during fall camp, but the Tigers haven’t cooled down in recruiting either. On Monday, they secured a commitment from three-star defensive lineman Dilan Battle.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 315 pounds, Battle is ranked as the No. 61 defensive lineman in the nation. His commitment gives LSU three defensive tackle prospects for Bo Davis to work with in the 2025 class, joining Brandon Brown from Florida and Zion Williams from Texas. Battle has been a long-time LSU target, particularly since Davis arrived in Baton Rouge.
Battle made an official visit to Baton Rouge in late May to kick off the summer, and the trip left a strong impression, especially after interacting with Davis and spending time with freshmen like Gabriel Reliford, who hosted him during the visit.
“Coach Bo told me I’m a great player he really wants here, and I have a good chance to play right away,” Battle told Geaux247 at the time. “He showed me areas to improve and compared me to an NFL player he coached at Texas.”
Battle was likened to former Texas defensive tackle Keondre Coburn, a sixth-round draft pick by the Kansas City Chiefs. Securing Battle as a tall, physical interior lineman with the chance to learn under one of the best technique coaches in college football is a priority for LSU. The physical traits of these committed interior linemen are notable, even if they aren’t the most polished on the field. This is where Davis excels—developing players into the best versions their physical attributes allow.
With this commitment, there’s clear potential for these young defensive tackles to compete immediately for playing time. The defensive line room is still evolving, and Davis adding three new prospects to the mix, along with young talents like Dominick McKinley, Ahmad Breaux, Shone Washington, and De’Myrion Johnson, gives LSU ample opportunities to find contributors at the position.
The real progress might become evident in the 2026 class, with players like Jahkeem Stewart, Lamar Brown, Dylan Berymon, and Darryus McKinley preparing for their recruitment. Current four-star commit Richard Anderson in the 2026 class is a promising start, but more work is needed to strengthen the interior defensive line.
Landing players like Battle and offering them early opportunities to compete should grab the attention of other prospects nationwide looking for similar opportunities.
