What began as a promising season for Yankees pitching prospect Clayton Beeter could potentially end in disappointment due to injury.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman announced Tuesday afternoon at Tropicana Field that Beeter might miss the rest of the season because of a shoulder injury.
Beeter, who has been on the injured list since mid-May, is scheduled to consult with Dr. Keith Meister soon. At that point, the Yankees will have a clearer understanding of his recovery timeline, Cashman said. Ranked as the Yankees’ No. 13 prospect by MLB Pipeline, Beeter secured a spot on the team’s Opening Day roster after a strong performance in spring training. He made his MLB debut in Houston during the first series of the year, pitching a scoreless inning against the Astros on March 29.
The next day, Beeter was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he excelled in the RailRiders’ rotation, posting an impressive 2.53 ERA over seven starts. However, after throwing four no-hit innings on May 15, Beeter experienced shoulder discomfort and was placed on the 7-day injured list.
The Yankees entered this season with several top-rated pitchers in Triple-A, but the first half of the season has not gone as planned. Beeter is sidelined for the foreseeable future, and Will Warren, the Yankees’ No. 7 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, has struggled significantly, with a 6.64 ERA in 17 starts with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
