Will it be the Seminoles or Tigers for one of the top defensive backs in the 2025 class?

In just a few hours, one of Florida State’s top 2025 class targets, four-star defensive back Gregory Xavier Thomas, will announce his decision. The Seminoles are in the final two, competing with the Clemson Tigers for Thomas’ commitment on Sunday evening.

Thomas has been a significant figure on FSU’s recruiting radar for quite some time. The Seminoles have been fostering a relationship with this blue-chip prospect for over a year, positioning themselves well to potentially secure their fifth commitment in the past week.

Florida State had the chance to leave a lasting impression on Thomas during his official visit last weekend. Although the Tigers are formidable competition, the relationships and connections with the Seminoles may give FSU an edge.

As a junior, Thomas notched 19 tackles, one tackle for loss, and two interceptions, contributing to American Heritage High School’s run to the playoff semi-finals. He also competes in track, boasting an 11.56-second 100-meter dash.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound defensive back is ranked as the No. 190 overall prospect, the No. 17 safety, and the No. 23 recruit in Florida for the 2025 class according to 247Sports.

Florida State currently holds eight verbal commitments in the #Tribe25 class, ranking No. 44 nationally.

You can watch Thomas’s announcement live on his Instagram page. The ceremony begins at 7:34 p.m. at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL, with Thomas expected to make his decision around 8:40 p.m. or shortly thereafter.
