Red Sox manager Alex Cora appeared to take a subtle jab at the Yankees’ recent losing streak while speaking with reporters earlier this week.

With the July 30 trade deadline approaching, Cora is urging Boston’s front office to “get greedy.” The Red Sox have won 10 of their last 13 games and are just half a game out of the American League’s wild-card standings.

“We’ll see what happens in a month or month and a half. We just need to keep playing better baseball. I know we’ve been talking about the wild card and all that stuff. Let’s get greedy,” Cora said Thursday, via CBS Boston.

“There are teams ahead of us that are not playing good baseball. I know, probably, one of them, it’s only for five days. But there’s more out there. I think this brand of baseball, we can maintain the way we’re playing.”

The “five days” remark was likely referencing the Baltimore Orioles, who lost five in a row before a recent two-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, the Yankees dropped their fourth consecutive game on Thursday, losing 9-2 to the Blue Jays. They have lost 10 of their last 13 games, bringing their record to 52-31.
