Clemson wide receiver Blackmon Huckabee has embarked on a new career path as a recording artist. The Clover, S.C., native recently dropped his debut single, “Run With Me,” on June 14, marking a significant milestone in his journey.
In an Instagram post, Huckabee expressed the profound personal significance of the song’s release. “This song is incredibly meaningful to me not just because it’s my debut, but because of the mental and physical challenges I’ve faced along the way,” Huckabee shared. “I almost lost my right leg completely, broke my other leg in three places, yet managed to finish the season and complete this track.”
Huckabee, who spent the 2020 season at Furman before joining Clemson as a walk-on in 2021, had a tumultuous path to this point. His football career was threatened when he suffered a serious injury during a spring workout in 2023, an incident that could have resulted in amputation. Despite setbacks, including breaking his other leg later that fall, Huckabee persevered.
“Through all the ups and downs (and three surgeries), we’ve emerged with a fantastic song that resonates and inspires,” Huckabee reflected on his journey. “I poured my personality and artistry into this project, and we’re just getting started.”
Huckabee gained attention last summer when a video of him performing an acapella rendition of “Tennessee Whiskey” went viral. Clemson head football coach Dabo Swinney showcased Huckabee’s vocal talent during a team meeting, leading to further recognition when he sang the National Anthem acapella in front of a crowd of 83,000 at Memorial Stadium.
“I’m grateful to everyone who has supported me—teammates, coaches, staff—and to all who are ready to join me on this journey,” Huckabee expressed his appreciation.
Huckabee’s debut release received expert treatment, with Dale Becker—a multi-Grammy award-winning mastering engineer whose credits include Aretha Franklin, Earth Wind & Fire, Billie Eilish, SZA, The Weeknd, and Harry Styles—lending his expertise to the project.
