According to Italian outlet Inter Live, West Ham United has proposed a player-plus-cash deal to Inter Milan for defender Carlos Augusto.
Emerson Palmieri was a regular starter under former manager David Moyes, playing most of the Premier League games last season.
However, with Julen Lopetegui taking over as manager, Emerson’s role is in question. Lopetegui’s preferred style may require a new left-back.
West Ham reportedly offered Emerson Palmieri and £16.8 million to Inter Milan for 25-year-old Brazilian defender Carlos Augusto.
The 29-year-old Emerson has also been linked with a move to Inter’s rivals, AC Milan, who are looking for a replacement for Theo Hernandez amid interest from Bayern Munich.
Augusto, who was on loan at Giuseppe Meazza from Monza last season before making the move permanent, has played 46 matches in all competitions for Inter Milan. The Serie A champions are reportedly very reluctant to let the Brazilian international leave.
West Ham’s willingness to include Emerson in the deal indicates that new manager Lopetegui is eager to revamp the left-back position.
While this might just be “Paper Talk,” West Ham’s proposed swap deal underscores a period of transition under new management. Emerson Palmieri’s future at the club remains uncertain as Lopetegui looks to reshape the squad for the upcoming season.
