Josh Johnson, a safety prospect from Ironton, Ohio, has committed to Louisville, becoming the 12th member of their 2025 recruiting class. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound, three-star defensive back made his decision after an official visit to Louisville on the weekend of May 31. He is the fourth recruit from Ohio, joining offensive lineman Jake Cook, tight end Grant Houser, and safety Micah Rice, and the third member of the secondary along with cornerback Antonio Harris and Rice.
Johnson chose Louisville over other programs, including Iowa, Kentucky, and Penn State. He also visited Penn State on the weekend of June 7 and held offers from Appalachian State, Boston College, Indiana, Marshall, Michigan State, Tennessee, UNLV, West Virginia, and more.
His visit to Louisville exceeded his expectations. “I loved it up there,” Johnson told Cardinal Authority. “I loved my time there, meeting new people, seeing new things, and building relationships. It was more than I thought it would be.”
Known for his physicality, Johnson was promised early playing time by the Louisville staff. Last season, he recorded four interceptions, two returned for touchdowns, and 68 tackles. The staff believes he can contribute immediately as a true freshman.
“They talked about my size, height, weight, and readiness coming out of high school,” Johnson said. “They don’t want to waste any time and redshirt me, they want to put me on the field when I get there.”
Johnson is the fourth recruit who visited on the weekend of May 31-June 2 to commit to Louisville, joining wide receiver LeBron Hill, linebacker Caleb Matelau, and running back Jaylin Brown.
