According to The Athletic, Newcastle United are among several Premier League teams that have reached out to Bologna about a potential transfer for Italian defender Ricardo Calafiori.

The 22-year-old, known for his versatility, made a strong impression in Italy’s 2-1 victory over Albania in their Euro 2024 opener and has had an outstanding season in Serie A.

Calafiori was crucial to Bologna’s successful league campaign, which saw them secure a Champions League spot by finishing fourth. This achievement has drawn interest from numerous clubs for their standout players.

Besides Newcastle, The Athletic reports that Liverpool, Brighton, and West Ham have also contacted Bologna regarding a possible deal. However, Juventus is believed to be leading the race, especially now that Thiago Motta has left Bologna to manage the Turin club.

Calafiori’s ability to play as a center-back, full-back, and defensive midfielder is particularly appealing to Eddie Howe, who favors versatile players. Nevertheless, Bologna will be eager to retain their key player after securing Champions League qualification.

His value is expected to rise if he continues to perform well at the Euros, making him a player to watch.
