Panathinaikos have reportedly turned down Ipswich Town’s bid to sign striker Fotis Ioannidis, according to Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos.

The Tractor Boys made an unsuccessful offer of £21 million for the centre-forward, who had an outstanding season in the Greek Super League.

Ioannidis, who has completed his fourth season with Panathinaikos, is in high demand this year, with clubs like Lazio, West Ham, and Celtic previously expressing interest.

Recent Greek media reports indicate that Panathinaikos have informed potential buyers that the 24-year-old is not for sale this summer, as he is deemed a crucial player for the team.

Ioannidis signed a new contract with Panathinaikos last year, extending his stay until 2027, as a reward for his excellent performance.

The Greece international, described as ‘complete’ by analyst Ben Mattinson, scored 23 goals and provided nine assists in 44 appearances across all competitions for Panathinaikos last season.

Ipswich Target Ioannidis Deal

Recent reports indicate that Ipswich Town’s bid to sign Fotis Ioannidis was their second attempt this summer, with the Tractor Boys having their second consecutive offer rejected.

Praised as a “talented and excellent finisher,” the centre-forward might finally make a significant career move this summer after proving his worth in Greece.

For the past two seasons, Ioannidis was named Greek Player of the Season, becoming only the eighth player in history to win the award more than once.

After achieving promotion and signing a new deal with manager Kieran McKenna, Ipswich are looking to bolster their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.

The Tractor Boys are preparing for a busy summer transfer window as they aim to avoid an immediate return to the Championship, something promoted clubs failed to do last season.

Ipswich will face Liverpool and their new manager Arne Slot at Portman Road on the opening matchday of the Premier League season on August 17.
