Former Liverpool Academy coach Steve Cooper is set to be named the new manager of promoted Premier League side Leicester City
Former Liverpool Academy coach Steve Cooper is poised to return to Premier League management as the head of newly promoted Leicester City.
Cooper is currently in discussions with the Foxes, having been unemployed since being dismissed by Nottingham Forest last December. During his tenure at Forest, he led the team from the Championship to the Premier League over more than two years.
According to a report in The Telegraph, Leicester is optimistic about finalizing Cooper’s appointment later this week. They are seeking a replacement for Enzo Maresca, who secured Leicester’s immediate return to the Premier League by winning the Championship last season before taking over as the new manager at Chelsea.
Leicester faces a potential points deduction for the upcoming season due to breaches in profit and sustainability regulations, having reported losses of £89.7 million earlier this year.
Cooper began his career at Liverpool as an Academy coach in September 2008 and eventually took charge of the under-18s before moving to the FA in 2013. There, he rose to coach the England U17s team, leading them to victory in the U17 World Cup in India in 2017. He then managed Swansea City in the Championship for two years before joining Forest.
