Dan Campbell gave a Detroit Lions injury update on Thursday

The Detroit Lions wrapped up their mandatory minicamp with a short practice session on Thursday. Head coach Dan Campbell announced that this would be the final spring practice for the veterans, as the upcoming OTAs will focus exclusively on younger players. In his final spring press conference, Campbell provided several injury updates, most of which were positive.

According to Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit, several key players did not participate in practice, including Taylor Decker, Kevin Zeitler, DJ Reader, Kyle Peko, Emmanuel Moseley, Craig James, Brian Branch, and Khalil Dorsey.

The positive updates began with Khalil Dorsey, who had been carted off the field on Wednesday because of a lower leg injury. Coach Campbell mentioned that Dorsey’s injury was not serious: “He should be good, we got good news on that. It looks like a little ankle, so he’s good.”

Uncertainty for DJ Reader

Campbell anticipates that Emmanuel Moseley and Marcus Davenport will be ready for training camp, though DJ Reader might start a bit later. He clarified that Reader’s delayed start was expected and not a setback: “Reader will be a decision on when he’s ready to start practicing. But that’s not something we’re caught off guard by. We knew this would take a minute here.”

Jahmyr Gibbs and Marcus Davenport returned to work with trainers after a day off. Campbell noted that this was the most active Davenport had been all camp, a positive sign as the team heads into their break. Frank Ragnow and Tommy Awosika are still out of team drills, while Ifeatu Melifonwu continues with walkthroughs and trainer work. Among the injured players, Melifonwu has been the most active during his rehab.
