The Wests Tigers have received unfortunate news regarding injuries, as both John Bateman and Starford To’a are set for extended periods on the sidelines. Bateman, who has played eight games this season, will be missed for his versatility and experience, despite his performances being somewhat disappointing.

NRL 2023: John Bateman to captain Wests Tigers against Melbourne Storm
He is expected to miss between eight and ten weeks due to a pectoral injury sustained over the weekend, although it’s fortunate that it’s not a full rupture, which could have sidelined him for up to 14 weeks. There’s hope he could return by Round 18, potentially bolstering the team’s chances during the State of Origin period. With Apisai Koroisau likely to be absent due to Origin selection, Bateman would have been looked upon to provide leadership. On the other hand, To’a, in only his second game of the season, is sidelined with a hamstring injury for an undetermined period, though not as severe as Nathan Cleary’s, which will keep him out for eight weeks.

NRL news | Tigers get Api deal done | CODE SportsThis adds to the Tigers’ woes, as they are also without Isaiah Papali’i for their upcoming Magic Round match against the Dolphins. Consequently, the team has made adjustments, with Alex Twal and Alex Seyfarth stepping in for Papali’i and Bateman respectively, while Brent Naden moves into the centres and Solomon Alaimalo onto the wing to cover for To’a. Sione Fainu and Asu Kepaoa are on the bench for the club.
