The Detroit Tigers put third baseman Gio Urshela on the 10-day injured list Saturday because of a strained right hamstring. As a result, they brought up third baseman Buddy Kennedy from Triple-A Toledo.

Urshela, aged 32, left Friday’s game against the Minnesota Twins in the second inning after feeling discomfort while running out a groundout. He informed reporters later that he has a Grade 1 strain and might be sidelined for around two weeks.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch expressed concern about Urshela’s injury, stating that he noticed something amiss in Urshela’s running before he left the game. Urshela, who joined the Tigers in the offseason, has been hitting .298 with six RBIs in 18 games. He had a significant injury last season with the Los Angeles Angels due to a fractured pelvis.

Originally from Colombia, Urshela has played for several MLB teams, including the Cleveland franchise, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, Angels, and now the Tigers. Throughout his career, he has maintained a batting average of .278 with 64 home runs and 286 RBIs in 682 games.

Kennedy, aged 25, previously played for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2022 to 2023, where he batted .206 in 40 games.
