John Hynes, fresh off his inaugural season as head coach for the Minnesota Wild, swiftly transitions to helm the U.S. Men’s National Team for the impending IIHF Men’s World Championships, set to unfold from May 10-26 in Czechia. Brett Peterson, serving as both the general manager for the 2024 U.S. Men’s National Team and the assistant general manager for the Florida Panthers, expresses confidence in Hynes’ leadership qualities, highlighting his fervor, expertise, and previous international coaching experience. Hynes previously coached the U.S. Men’s National Team in 2016 and 2019. His appointment comes shortly after his tenure with the Wild, where he was brought in by Bill Guerin, Wild’s President of Hockey Operations, replacing Dean Evason in late November. Despite the Wild missing the playoffs, Hynes’ track record and Guerin’s involvement in Team USA for upcoming events, such as the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off and the 2026 Olympics, signify a strong collaborative effort to bolster American hockey success.
