The Seattle Seahawks bolstered their quarterback lineup in anticipation of the 2024 NFL draft. Kory Curtis, previously of Ohio State, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce his move to Seattle.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity, Curtis tweeted, “Thrilled to be joining @Seahawks. First step: Rookie minicamp! #AGTG.”
Curtis initially received a scholarship to Ohio State but opted to transfer after Justin Fields secured the starting position, according to The Gannon Knight. Following two years at Bryant University, the 6-foot-3, 235-pound quarterback made the move to Gannon in 2021. In the 2022 season, he amassed 2,879 passing yards and 27 touchdowns, in addition to scoring 4 times through rushing plays.
Despite his hopes of being drafted in the 2023 NFL draft, Curtis faced disappointment as his name wasn’t called. “Honestly, it’s been a bit frustrating,” he shared with the outlet. “I was projected for the 6th or 7th round, but I didn’t make it into either round. Since then, it’s been an uphill battle.” As a result, he opted to join The Quad City Steamrollers of the Indoor Football League.
“I chose to sign with them because they offered me an opportunity,” Curtis elaborated. “Their head coach has connections with many NFL players, and the IFL provides a direct pathway to the XFL through a draft for IFL players.” Recently, he made another move, signing up to play with the West Texas Desert Hawks.
Prior to his stint with the Seahawks, Curtis underwent a private workout with the Pittsburgh Steelers. SI’s Noah Strackbein highlighted the visit, noting, “Teams have been drawn to his powerful arm and D1 background.”
QB Cory Kurtis’ Completion Percentage Made a Huge Jump Between 2021 and 2022
Leading up to the 2023 NFL draft, Gannon head coach Erik Raeburn commented on Curtis’s progress since joining the team. “Kory has made significant strides in his accuracy over the past two seasons,” Raeburn shared with The Fort Myers News-Press. “In 2021, his completion rate hovered around 51%, and by 2022, it had surged to 65%. This improvement is a result of his dedication to refining his fundamentals and diligently studying film to master our system.”
Hailing from Cape Coral, Curtis underwent individual workouts with the Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Steelers. “One of the aspects they valued the most is my cerebral approach to the game,” Curtis shared with the outlet. “I frequently made play calls at the line of scrimmage. I possess the ability to orchestrate an offense at the line, and they appreciated that, along with my capability to extend plays outside the pocket.”
After a winding journey, Curtis finally lands his opportunity in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks. Seahawks linebacker Jerome Baker Jr. echoed the news on X, commenting, “Looking forward to it, brother. 🤞🏾.”
