The lineups are set as Spencer Turnbull and the Phillies open a three-game series against the White Sox at Citizens Bank Park.

The Philadelphia Phillies (11-8) are set to continue their 10-game homestand on Friday night, hosting the struggling Chicago White Sox (3-15) at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies, currently trailing the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves by 2.0 games, are looking to capitalize on their recent successes.

The White Sox are enduring a rough patch, to put it mildly. Sitting at the bottom of the AL Central, they come into this series after breaking a six-game losing streak but still hold the unenviable position of having the worst record in Major League Baseball. With a staggering -54 run differential and a dismal 1-6 record on the road, they face an uphill battle.

Meanwhile, the Phillies are riding high after sweeping the Colorado Rockies in their previous series. With a 5-2 record during the homestand so far, highlighted by dramatic walk-off wins and Ranger Suárez’s stellar complete-game shutout on Tuesday, they aim to maintain their momentum as they take on the struggling White Sox.

Phillies vs. White Sox probable pitchers, April 19

Spencer Turnbull (1-0) is set to make his fourth start of the season in the series opener. The right-hander, who has performed admirably in the fifth spot, boasts an impressive 1.80 ERA and 0.93 WHIP as he takes on the White Sox. However, his last outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates was his toughest, surrendering three runs on four hits while striking out three over four innings.

On the other side, Garrett Crochet (1-2) has been a pleasant surprise for Chicago this season. The left-handed pitcher, originally a reliever but now a starter, brings a 3.57 ERA and 0.84 WHIP into Friday’s game. Despite his recent struggles against the Cincinnati Reds, where he allowed five runs on four hits and three walks, Crochet still managed to strike out 10 batters in that outing. Overall, he has amassed an impressive 31 strikeouts with just four walks in 22 2/3 innings this season.
