The New England Patriots are in the market for a rookie QB but are reportedly out on this QB prospect.

The New England Patriots hold the third overall pick and have secured quarterback Jacoby Brissett on a one-year contract worth $8 million. However, Brissett isn’t viewed as the permanent solution.

Despite numerous promising quarterback prospects available in the draft, it seems that New England isn’t targeting any particular individual.

According to Alex Barth of 985TheSportsHub, the key figures in decision-making for the Patriots will not be present at Michael Penix’s Pro Day. Penix is notably the only quarterback the Patriots didn’t engage with during the NFL Scouting Combine.

In this draft class, top quarterback prospects include Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and J.J. McCarthy, all highly regarded by New England. It appears that they have a preference for these quarterbacks over Michael Penix Jr.

Penix Jr., from Washington, showcases a powerful arm and precise accuracy across all passing ranges. He demonstrates the ability to swiftly navigate through his progressions. Over his last two seasons, Penix Jr. has amassed impressive stats, throwing for 9,544 yards, with 67 passing touchdowns and 19 interceptions.

Despite his evident talent, Penix Jr. has faced challenges due to multiple injuries during his time at the University of Indiana between 2018 and 2021. Two torn ACLs and two shoulder injuries raise concerns about his durability, possibly influencing the Patriots’ view of him.

With the third overall pick, the Patriots have a variety of options to consider. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Drake Maye leads as the favored selection for New England at -150 odds. If you’re interested in these odds, you can visit FanDuel Sportsbook to claim your sign-up bonus.
