Other teams are reportedly keeping a close eye on Western Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae, according to Channel 9’s Tom Morris. The three-time All-Australian was omitted from the Bulldogs’ senior lineup for their recent defeat to Melbourne due to an injury-interrupted pre-season. Interestingly, this decision followed his removal from the Bulldogs’ leadership group during the off-season.
Morris mentioned on Channel 9’s Footy Furnace that Jack Macrae is currently playing in the VFL and although not fully fit, he still has four years remaining on his contract. Other clubs are monitoring his situation, contemplating the possibility of luring him away from the Bulldogs.
In the match against Melbourne, the Bulldogs introduced five new players, including recruits James Harmes, Lachie Bramble, and Nick Coffield, along with debutants Ryley Sanders and Harvey Gallagher.
After the game, Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge indicated that Macrae, aged 29, is nearing a return to the senior team but emphasized that they won’t rush him back if he’s not completely fit. Macrae had been dealing with a stress-related concern in his femur during the pre-season and subsequently suffered a hamstring injury, which impacted his training and running. Beveridge stated they will wait until Macrae is fully prepared to perform at his peak before reintroducing him to the senior lineup.
