Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown repeatedly emphasized Jalen Brunson’s exceptional talent, likening him to the caliber of Stephen Curry. Brown marveled at Brunson’s performance, acknowledging his ability to score despite the Kings’ aggressive defensive strategy. Despite the Knicks’ overall shooting struggles, Brunson’s remarkable shooting efficiency stood out, particularly his 50% success rate from beyond the arc. Brown noted the relentless defensive pressure applied to Brunson throughout the game, yet he still managed to deliver a standout performance, underscoring his impact on the Knicks’ victory.

Brunson’s stellar performance against the Kings was part of a remarkable streak, making him only the fourth player in Knicks history to achieve consecutive 40-point games, joining the ranks of Carmelo Anthony, Patrick Ewing, and Bernard King. His clutch shot in the final seconds sealed the win for the Knicks.

Brunson’s impressive stat line against the Kings, shooting 17 of 28 from the field and 5 of 10 from three-point range, underscored his consistent excellence. Additionally, his defensive contributions with four steals, along with rebounds and assists, further showcased his versatility and overall impact on the game.

Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau praised his star point guard’s resilience despite not receiving favorable calls from the referees.

Thibodeau emphasized Brunson’s exceptional ability to make shots and withstand physical pressure without complaining. Despite feeling that Brunson was frequently being fouled, he admired his player’s determination to stay focused and continue scoring.

During the game against the Kings, Brunson only went to the free throw line four times, converting three of those opportunities. In contrast, Kings’ star point guard De’Aaron Fox had significantly more free throw attempts, making eight out of ten.

Thibodeau highlighted Brunson’s persistence in driving to the basket despite facing traps and physical challenges from opponents. Despite the limited free throw opportunities, Thibodeau admired Brunson’s mental toughness, acknowledging his awareness of the game’s circumstances, including being on the road and facing tough calls. Brunson’s ability to remain unaffected by officiating decisions impressed Thibodeau, reflecting his resilient mindset.

Knicks’ Stifling Defense

The Knicks limited the Kings to their lowest score in a home game this season. Additionally, this marks the fifth consecutive game where the Knicks have kept their opponents under 100 points, making it the longest streak of its kind this season. The only team to score the most points (93) against the Knicks during this defensive run was the Trail Blazers, highlighting the remarkable defensive performance by the Knicks, which is their best in this century.
