Less than two weeks remain until the start of the 2024 season, and despite that, there are still notable free agents seeking new teams. This offseason has been notably unusual, with several top-tier free agents remaining available. Among them, Blake Snell, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, stands out as particularly surprising. While initially linked with the New York Yankees, Snell’s demand for a substantial contract has deterred potential suitors. However, recent reports suggest a shift in his stance, with Snell now reportedly open to a shorter two-year deal. According to USA Today Sports’ Bob Nightengale, Snell has expressed willingness to join the Houston Astros, provided he receives a two-year guarantee worth $66 million, inclusive of an opt-out clause after the 2024 season. Despite the Astros’ interest, they, like previous teams, are hesitant due to the high price tag, especially considering potential luxury tax implications. Although Houston has emerged as a potential destination, the Yankees remain prominently linked to Snell. While a signing appears unlikely presently, if Snell’s asking price continues to decrease, the situation could evolve.
