Domingo German has secured a spot on the East Coast with the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to MLB insider Mike Rodriguez. The former New York Yankees pitcher has inked a one-year minor-league contract valued at $1.5 million, with a mutual option for 2025. German, a right-handed pitcher, compiled a record of 5-7 with a 4.56 ERA across 19 starts last season for the Yankees, notably achieving a surprise perfect game. However, his on-field performance has been overshadowed by personal issues. Following reported troubling behavior in the clubhouse, German was sent by the Yankees for treatment for alcohol abuse in August. Additionally, he served a suspension imposed by MLB from 2019-20 due to allegations of domestic violence against his girlfriend. Despite these concerns, the Pittsburgh Pirates, a team that hasn’t reached the playoffs in nearly ten years, have shown willingness to take chances on such players. Earlier in the offseason, they also signed another controversial former Yankees pitcher.
