Following the acquisition of Mark Nawaqanitawase from rugby union, the Sydney Roosters are reportedly actively considering signing another rugby union talent.
Max Jorgensen, currently without a contract with the NSW Waratahs and Rugby Australia after 2024, is believed to be on the Roosters’ radar for potential recruitment.
Jorgensen, who was part of the Wallabies 2023 Rugby World Cup squad until sidelined by a fractured fibula, is the son of former player Peter Jorgensen, renowned for his tenure with the Eastern Suburbs and Penrith Panthers.
While a move to his father’s former club is plausible, Jorgensen has previously expressed his commitment to remaining in rugby union.
According to 9news reporter Danny Weidler on Nine’s 100% Footy, there is significant interest in Jorgensen from the Roosters’ camp, with his name repeatedly mentioned as a potential target in the next 12 to 24 months.
Weidler also dismissed speculation linking the Roosters to Zac Lomax from the St George Illawarra Dragons, despite ongoing rumors surrounding Lomax’s future with the Red V, particularly amidst the impending departures of Daniel Tupou, Joseph Suaalii, and Joseph Manu.
Despite being under contract until 2026 and earning $800,000 annually, reports suggest Lomax is discontented with his position change during the off-season.
Furthermore, Weidler clarified that there is no indication of Joseph Suaalii reconsidering his deal with Rugby Australia to stay in the NRL with the Roosters, contrary to recent speculations. Rugby Australia’s CEO, Phil Waugh, assured that Suaalii’s contract would be honored as agreed upon, dispelling any notions of discrepancies in the deal.
