NFL veteran tight end Hunter Henry, who has eight years of experience in the league, has inked a fresh deal with the New England Patriots. In 2023, despite the New England Patriots struggling with one of the worst offenses in the league, Hunter Henry managed to shine amidst the lackluster passing game. Playing in 14 games, the seasoned NFL player amassed 42 catches for 429 yards and six touchdowns out of 61 passes thrown his way. It’s noteworthy that he achieved these stats despite challenges with Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe’s performance as quarterbacks.
Henry’s journey in the NFL began in 2016 when he was drafted in the second round by the San Diego Chargers, now known as the Los Angeles Chargers. Making an immediate impact, he played 15 games, starting in 10, and secured 36 receptions for 478 yards and eight touchdowns from 53 targets.
Following a promising debut, Henry blossomed into a formidable weapon in his second season, appearing in 14 games with 13 starts. He tallied 45 catches for 579 yards and four touchdowns on 62 targets. However, an unfortunate ACL tear sidelined him for the entire subsequent regular season, although he managed to return for the Chargers’ playoff game against the New England Patriots, albeit without making a significant impact.
In 2019, Henry silenced any doubts about his injury by delivering his best performance yet, maintaining excellent form over the next two seasons. During this period, he accumulated a total of 115 receptions, 1,265 yards, and nine touchdowns before signing with the New England Patriots as a free agent.
In his debut season with the Patriots, Henry served as a reliable target for rookie quarterback Mac Jones, securing 50 receptions for 603 yards and nine touchdowns from 75 targets, while contributing to the team’s return to the playoffs.
