A man who lost his right leg in an accident involving Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith is suing him for alleged negligence. The incident occurred when Highsmith crashed into the man, Alekxei Pino, who was assisting a stranded motorist on a road in Miami-Dade County. According to the police report, Highsmith was driving slightly over the speed limit and was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision. Pino suffered severe injuries, including a partial amputation of his right leg, a fractured left leg, and a possible broken left arm. The lawsuit was filed against Highsmith and the co-owner of the car, Brenda Highsmith. Pino’s attorney stated that Pino, aged 21, remains hospitalized, emphasizing that he was simply trying to help someone in need, and it’s tragic that his good deed resulted in such a devastating outcome. Highsmith’s attorney declined to comment, while Highsmith’s agent stated that Highsmith was not speeding or under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident and immediately rendered aid to the injured individual until medical help arrived.
