Leicester City remains the leading contender for Inter Milan midfielder Stefano Sensi’s next destination. The Foxes had a relatively quiet January transfer window, which isn’t surprising given their successful summer signings that propelled them to the top of the Championship table. Despite Leeds United narrowing the gap to nine points, Leicester maintains a comfortable lead over their promotion rivals.

Although Leicester may have sought reinforcements, particularly in the left-back position, during January, Cesare Casadei’s unexpected recall from loan by Chelsea may have left a gap in midfield. Sensi was heavily linked with a move to Leicester throughout the window, with reports suggesting a deal was close. However, his recent surgery will keep him sidelined for about a month, delaying any potential transfer. Nonetheless, Leicester remains a strong candidate for Sensi in the summer, especially since his contract with Inter expires then. While there’s uncertainty about a contract extension with Inter, reports suggest Leicester remains interested in the midfielder.

Leicester’s pursuit of Sensi aligns with their strategy of securing quality players at low cost. Acquiring Sensi for free could enable them to allocate resources to other areas, crucial for their anticipated return to the Premier League. This contrasts with Burnley’s expensive but unsuccessful player acquisitions upon their Premier League return.
